Slide to Open ~ digital learning Media stream VITTA Annual Conference and Expo 2009This year the Slide to Open ~ digital learning conference will be alive with hands-on sessions with a music focus. For music specialists and non specialists alike Slide to Open will explore the diverse ways in which digital technologies are helping primary and secondary teachers implement multimedia and music in cross disciplinary learning areas. The VITTA Conference will introduce well respected local, interstate, international keynotes and presenters who will discuss media education and lead practical workshops using the latest cutting edge technology and contemporary learning.

Lee Whitmore
Distinguished educator, author, clinician and keyboardist, Lee has been a leading advocate for the integration of technology in arts education for nearly twenty years. Lee is an author for Alfred Publishing’s Music Tech Series, a complete curriculum for music composition and recording for secondary school students. In addition to founding SoundTree, a division of Korg, Lee also served as adjunct faculty member at Columbia University Teachers College, VP for Education at Cablevision Systems Corporation (1999-2002), and treasurer for the Technology Institute for Music Educators (www.ti-me.org, from 2001-2008).
Lee Whitmore, Ed.D., is director for education market solutions for Avid Technology, the established leader in creative digital media, from video to audio and music. Based in the San Francisco Bay area, Lee is responsible for Avid’s educational strategy, relationships and partnerships, throughout the world. Prior to working in market solutions, he was the education technology and sales director for Sibelius Americas, a part of Avid.

Ian Harvey
Ian Harvey providing information on musical education and the national curriculum. Ian Harvey is the Executive Officer of the Australian Music Association. He administers the wholesale, retail of music products that supply to the public an schools. Associate members include piano tuners, private music studios, software developers and other active music bodies, such as TOAN or ABODA.
Dr Steve Dillon
Creative Engagement: Making sense of media through Creative ensemble performance
Dr Steve Dillon is Project leader for the Australasian Cooperative Research Centre for Interaction design (ACID) Network Jamming Research Creating new instruments and ways of learning for media performance. He is founding director of the save to DISC (Documenting Innovation in Sound Communities) Research Network which examines and documents the qualities and relationships between music, meaning, cognitive and social benefit, health and well being. Steve is a senior lecturer in Music and Sound and music education in the Faculty of Creative Industry, Queensland University of Technology.
