DEECD ITD in partnership with the Victorian Information Technology Teachers Association are to conduct a Technical Program for TSSP Specialist Technicians as part of the annual VITTA Conference on Wednesday 25th November 2009 at Flemington Racecourse and Victoria University Footscray Park Campus.

Leveraging Microsoft Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 in the education environment Microsoft

  • New features in Windows 7 relevant to education (Applocker, VHD management, Windows XP Compatibility Mode) – Practical walkthrough/talkthrough demos provided.
  • Windows Server 2008 R2 new features relating to classroom computer management (group policy) – Practical introduction to the new GPMC.
  • Windows Server 2008 R2 desktop deployment with WDS (non practical demo on the big screen).
  • Demo on Office 2010 CTP

Concurrent Session 4

Cisco Network Infrastructure for School ICT Design - Cisco

  • Configuring a Cisco Catalyst 3570G core switch and Cisco (Linksys) SRW 2048 edge switch for use in a school environment to:
  • Allow for multicasting (Ghost and WDS) – specifically highlighting the use of rapid spanning tree / jumbo frames (for Linksys) etc.
  • Discuss port aggregation and its pro’s and con’s.
  • Discuss the Cisco Aeronet 1252 WAP
  • Cisco software for network management
  • Cisco switch simulator website and resources

Concurrent Session 5

  • Xirrus wireless arrays for high density areas and conferences (e.g. Student Summit etc)
  • The theory of a Xirrus array
  • Use of a Xirrus switch for conferences or high density areas
  • Case studies
  • Xirrus configuration demo
