What is a VITTA Professional Learning Network?
In 2009 VITTA has established regional professional learning networks [PLNs] for the teaching and learning of ICT K-12. These networks will support teachers who cannot readily access the professional learning activities that VITTA runs in Melbourne.Initially, VITTA has targeted key people in 12 regions in Victoria, three regions in Tasmania and Fiji to assist with the setting up of PLNs. Ideally, VITTA would like two people to run each network.
If you want to be involved you could initially help arrange the first meeting of a PLN and invite teachers and educators in your area to the meeting or if you don't want that level of involvement, you could just get included on a mailing list for when the PLN in your region gets started.
VITTA will be also circulating information about the PLNs through Edulists and its publications asking for those who are interested in either joining the PLNs to contact the interim leaders or being an interim leader of any PLNs without leaders attached.
The VITTA Professional Learning Office will support the PLNs in their set up and ongoing operations. This support cover some outside presenter as well as assistance with network planning.
While each PLN will have autonomy in direction and organisation, they will have to report on their activities for VITTA once per term. Professional Learning Networks will be able to access the professional learning resources of the VITTA Office. PLN leaders will be invited to attend network planning support sessions in Melbourne.Still interested? VITTA hopes to welcome you on board soon. Contact the VITTA Office for expressions of interest as an interim PLN leader. Jo McLeay will be the key contact. A FAQ sheet on the PLNs is available, contact Jo for a copy.
