‘This was an ideal way to expose our business to a large European audience as delegates attend Online Educa Berlin from over 90 countries. Sharing the stand made a bold statement about Australia and hundreds of people visited us there.’
Carol Skyring, Founder and CEO of LearnTel www.learntel.com.au and regular delegate and exhibitor at Online Educa Berlin.
In 2004 I was invited by education.au to be a part of the first Australian delegation to Online Educa Berlin. At that time I was the Head of Computing Studies at St Andrew's Cathedral School. As a newcomer to Online Educa Berlin, the conference gave me a global perspective on the principles governing the introduction and use of learning technologies in education. Allied to this, I learnt how to apply these principles in my own school in order to move towards a more effective learning organisation.
The outcome of this process was a body of students and educators who were better able to take initiative and responsibility for their own learning. OEB gave me the confidence to say: "This is world's best practice and this is what we need to do in our school".
Pictured at the VIP event in the middle photo above, I was given the wonderful opportunity to meet and to spend some time with pioneers of technology. At a VIP function at the Australian exhibition stand we were joined by Robert Cailliau of CERN (circled in the photo) who with Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web. It was a privilege to attend OEB and I can recommend it to all Australian educators.’
David Hawkes, Australian delegate at Online Educa Berlin 2004.
